Managing Director / Executive Director – Private Equity

Senior private equity leadership for a state-owned investment platform, owning the full cycle and building one of its first dedicated PE teams.

The institution

A well-established, state-owned investment platform and fund house with a presence in Hong Kong and Mainland China. The employer is not named. The firm is expanding a pure private equity capability and is establishing one of its first dedicated PE specialist teams. The seat is senior, hands-on, and carries the business-building responsibility. It reports to the Department Head.

The work

  • Lead and build a dedicated private equity team across the full investment cycle: fundraising (募), investment (投), portfolio management (管), and exit (退).
  • Source, evaluate, execute, and exit PE investments, with hands-on work across origination, due diligence, negotiation, structuring, and closing.
  • Raise capital for PE strategies and funds, including institutional limited partners, family offices, and other capital partners.
  • Oversee post-investment management, value creation, risk monitoring, and exit planning.
  • Set the PE investment strategy for the new business line, including sector focus, deal criteria, and portfolio construction.
  • Recruit, develop, and manage the investment team, and set the processes and standards of the unit.
  • Represent the firm with limited partners and in the market, and work with the Department Head and senior management so the PE business sits inside the firm's strategy and risk framework.

What they are looking for

  • A bachelor's degree or above in finance, economics, or a related discipline. An advanced degree or a relevant professional qualification is an advantage.
  • A track record in private equity across fundraising, investing, managing, and exiting.
  • Experience leading a team and building or scaling a PE business line or fund platform.
  • Experience from a Chinese or Chinese-background investment platform, or an SOE-related investment firm, is strongly preferred.
  • A record in deal origination, execution, portfolio management, and exits.
  • Able to run the seat independently and still align it with senior management.
  • Fluent Mandarin. Strong English is a clear advantage.
  • Familiar with the Hong Kong and Mainland China private equity market and its regulatory setting.
