Head of Sales and Trading

Background Our client is a dynamic Singapore-headquartered investment bank with a growing presence in Hong Kong, offering a full suite of equity and fixed income products to institutional clients, corporates, and high-net-worth investors across Asia. The bank is expanding its Sales and Trading franchise in Hong Kong to capitalize on increasing market activity in equities, derivatives, and fixed income. Reporting to the Asia Head of Markets or Regional CEO, the Head of Sales and Trading will lead the overall business strategy, client coverage, trading operations, and revenue growth in a fast-paced, competitive environment while ensuring strict regulatory compliance.

Responsibility

• Develop and execute the strategic business plan for the Hong Kong Sales and Trading desk, focusing on equities, fixed income, derivatives, and cross-asset solutions to drive revenue and market share.
• Lead and manage a team of sales professionals, traders, and support staff to deliver superior client service, idea generation, and execution capabilities.
• Build and strengthen relationships with institutional clients, hedge funds, asset managers, corporates, and other key accounts in Hong Kong and Greater China.
• Oversee trading activities, liquidity provision, risk management, and position monitoring across equity, fixed income, and related products.
• Collaborate closely with research, origination, and other internal teams to provide integrated solutions and seamless cross-selling opportunities.
• Monitor market trends, volatility, and macroeconomic developments to identify trading and sales opportunities while managing market and credit risks effectively.
• Ensure full adherence to regulatory requirements, including SFC licensing rules, best execution, AML/CFT, and internal trading policies and procedures.
• Drive performance management, talent development, and succession planning for the Sales and Trading team.
• Provide regular business updates, P&L reporting, and strategic recommendations to senior management.

Requirement

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Finance, Economics, Business, or related disciplines; CFA or other relevant professional qualifications preferred.
• Minimum 12–15 years of relevant experience in Sales and Trading within an investment bank or brokerage, with at least 6–8 years in a senior leadership or head role covering equities and/or fixed income.
• Proven track record in building and growing a profitable Sales and Trading business in Hong Kong, with a strong existing client network among institutional investors in Asia.
• In-depth knowledge of equity and fixed income products, derivatives, execution strategies, and market microstructure in Asian markets.
• Sound understanding of Hong Kong regulatory frameworks (SFC Type 1, 2, and/or other relevant licenses or Responsible Officer experience highly preferred) and global best practices in risk management and compliance.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate teams and foster a high-performance sales and trading culture.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills; fluency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written) is mandatory; Cantonese is a strong advantage.
• High level of integrity, commercial acumen, and ability to operate effectively under pressure in a dynamic investment banking environment.
